“ADHD
isn't a disorder; it's a misunderstood form of differentiated learning.
Just because kids act outside what is acceptable, doesn't mean that
it's a bad thing. The worst thing you could do is prescribe the same
stuff that college guys are addicted to a child. Conforming to
perfection and quo is impossible and should be disregarded.” A
statement made by one doctor wishing to remain anonymously and agreed to
by many others about an ABC news special; that supports the notion that
certain meditations such as mindfulness and transcendental meditations
can cure a child as well as adults of mental disorders specifically
ADHD. Surprisingly to those that would believe that ADHD is real, the
population of middle aged people in the US that believes that very
statement is enormous.
At Toluca Lake elementary school in Los Angeles, California; once a week for 10 to 12 weeks, the students take time out from their normal curriculum to learn techniques that draw on the Buddhist meditative practice of mindfulness, which is meant to pro mote greater awareness of one’s self and one’s environment. Toluca Lake is one of a growing number of schools that are using “mindfulness trainings” or certain types of meditations in an effort to combat increasing levels of anxiety, social conflict, and attention disorders such as ADHD and ADD among children. Schools have been turning to mindfulness for very practical reasons that don’t concern religion, and their efforts have been supported by a recent wave of scientific results.
There are children at extreme young ages that are on medication for what was told to them by their pediatrician as ADHD. Because their parents continuously complain that their child is not acting as they would prefer the doctors are sometimes forced to make a false diagnosis that can be the excuse to medicate the child to shut the parent up, and it’s good for business. In the news articles today as well as the CDC it was hinted that the reason that the increase in children with this diagnoses is due to more awareness that something like this is said to exist, there are more commercials now, more studies, research, books. You name it the word is definitely out that if your child isn’t acting all grown up like a child adult that something may be wrong with him or her. And since it has always been the dream of all parents to have children that are easier to tend to, then it is natural that more parents would start to say their child must be ADHD.
In cultures where Buddhism is more predominate there are less children diagnosed with ADHD or ADD. That is because meditation is a main part of their culture and it is part of their lives. Meditation teaches you to focus your mind, control your thoughts and calm your energy. It has been proven to promote a healthy immune system and a healthy brain. But despite the news articles, one expert isn't surprised by the numbers. "I believe the findings are generally accurate and consistent with most research in detailing the rapid and rather disconcerting rise in the diagnosis of ADHD in U.S. children," said John D. Ranseen, an associate professor of psychiatry at the University Of Kentucky College Of Medicine. "Another very uncomfortable issue is the role of pharmacological companies in all of this since it is very much in their interest to increase the diagnosis and treatment of this condition. The last thing they have any interest in seeing is a drop in the diagnosis and treatment," Ranseen said. "One would hope that such findings might give the mental health field pause to wonder and worry about why we are seeing increases in virtually all psychiatric conditions -- autism, depression, ADHD, bipolar in children -- for instance, what does this say about our society?" Ranseen added. The bottom line seems to be that the children of the US need meditation and a more healthy culture, it is up to the adults over the children to provide such ways of life.

In today’s headlines you see, “ADHD Rates Soar in U.S. Kids: Study” and “US survey: 1 in 10 kids has ADHD, awareness cited”. Upon reading the articles there is notable a false sense that these studies were backed by any real evidence at all. In
fact if you read towards the bottom of the articles you may even notice
where it begins to side step any fact that the news is stable enough to
be used as any type of evidence. Besides, if this was true and
accurate as some would believe what would that say about our country?
What would it say about the parents that are raising children today? The
facts remain that ADHD is simple accepted in an under medically
informed country as an actual condition in our youth today. The truth is
that ADHD is simply a real child acting with real child like tendencies
as opposed to acting more mature, like a young adult. But where do we
draw the line that our kids are supposed to act like adults, at what
age? There are children at extreme young ages that are on medication for what was told to them by their pediatrician as ADHD.
